Billiard Ball Ridddle, I like this one so much I am going to post it again?
You have 8 billiard balls.
All of them are exactly identical
except one ball is slightly heavier than the others.
You have one set of scales (ex. lady of justice scale).
You have 2 chances to weigh the balls to figure out which one is the heavier ball.
You can put however many balls on the scale as you like, but you only have 2 chances.
How do you figure out which ball is the heavier one?
I think I got it!!!
You measure 3 against 3.
Two possibilities:
a)One set of 3 is heavier: take the heavier set and measure 1 against 1 – two possibilities:
1: one of those two is heavier --> we found our heaviest ball
2: none of these is heavier --> the third one from this set is the one we are looking for
b)No difference: you have two balls left, which you measure 1 against 1 and you know which one is the heaviest.
