Many people may ask the question – What is snooker? Why snooker is often talked about when referring to billiards?

The first rules of snooker were put into place in 1882. This is a newer game than that of billiards which dates back to the 1500’s. This new game was taken to India by John Roberts who then took the game to England where they adopted the game.

Well snooker is a game that is closely related to billiards yet very different. In snooker there are points attributed to the object balls. There are often 15 red object balls in snooker plus balls 2 thru 7 to make 21 balls. The object in snooker is to score more points than that of your opponent in a set number of frames. The rules are a bit more complicated to learn in comparison to 8 ball in billiards, but many people stay that if you become a good snooker player then you will become better at pool as well.

Many people say that snooker is a more difficult game. The pockets are smaller in the game of snooker and the snooker table is generally bigger. The shots do take more skill in order to perform.

The game of snooker is not as popular in the United States as it is in England, the Middle East, and Canada to name a few. The game is growing more popular in the United States and people are playing it more and more. Still standard billiards is the game of choice currently.
